ATLANTA, Aug 24  Donald Trump flew in from New Jersey on Thursday to have his picture taken at an Atlanta jail in a full-blown criminal investigation into the former US president's attempts to overturn his election defeat by 2020 to make amends.

Georgia.Trump's private jettook off from Newark International Airport bound for the Fulton County Jail, where dozens of supporters were waiting for his arrival. On social media, he indicated that he would be leaving around 7:30 p.m.M. New York time (23:30 GMT).

Meanwhile, Judge Scott McAfee set October 23 as the court date for one of the defendants, Attorney Kenneth Chesebro, after Fani Willis, the Fulton County District Attorney who brought charges against Trump and others, suggested that date. This trial date will not necessarily apply to Trump or the other 17 defendants.Trump, 77, has already broken new ground as the first former US president to be prosecuted, although the four lawsuits against him have not dampened his momentum as the favorite in the race for the Republican nomination against Democratic President Joe.

“We want to put it on a t-shirt. It will go around the world. It's going to be more popular than the Mona Lisa," said Laura Loomer, 30, a former Republican Party congressional candidate who met with fellow Trump supporters outside the United States custody Thursday morning.

Trump, one of the most famous people in the world, did not have to appear for the photo in the other three cases. However, shortly after her first indictment in March in Manhattan for allegedly making hidden money payments to a porn star before the 2016 election, fake mugshots have been circulating online.

At least ten of his co-defendants have already been fined. Rudolph Giuliani, the former mayor of New York, had a petrified face in his photo and attorney Jenna Ellis smiled. The 19 accused will surrender on Friday. Court documents show Mark Meadows, Trump's White House chief of staff, was fired on Thursday.

Trump's legal team has yet to announce a date but are expected to insist the trial begins much later. On Thursday, his new attorney, Steven Sadow, requested that Trump be tried separately from Chesebro.

Trump is scheduled to testify on September 5 and has pleaded not guilty to three other counts. He denied the allegations and described all cases as politically motivated. In addition to the indictments filed by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Trump faces two federal indictments filed by Special Counsel Jack Smith: one in Washington for election interference and the other in Miami for classified documents he retained after leaving the office in 2021.

The prison is known for its harsh conditions, which have inspired rap songs and led to an investigation by the US Department of Justice.

Republicans who control the US House of Representatives said Thursday they would investigate whether Willis improperly cooperated with federal prosecutors.

They had previously launched investigations into Bragg, who had accused them of an "intimidation campaign".A dozen Trump supporters, some with flags, gathered in front of the jail awaiting his arrival.

"I'm here because I'm scared of what's going on," said Bob Kunst, an 81-year-old retiree who said he was from Miami Beach and stood in front of the jail holding a homemade sign that read, " Block" held up Biden".

".Trump's planned jail visit comes a day after his rivals running for the Republican presidential nomination met in Milwaukee for a preliminary debate. Trump skipped the event and instead attended a pre-taped interview with conservative commentator Tucker Carlson."I've been charged four times — it was just nonsense," Trump said.
